ITV Trigger Point fans 'rumble’ Lana double cross with boyfriend twist in Vicky McClure drama

ITV’s bomb disposal drama Trigger Point returned on Sunday evening for an hour of tense drama which left fans guessing who the culprit could be.

Fans believe they could have rumbled a huge twist for Vicky McClure's character Lana Washington after one character began to draw suspicions.

The fourth episode of the ITV show - which stars the 38-year-old Line Of Duty actress - aired this evening and fans are convinced they've worked out a big twist coming down the pipeline.

Tonight's show saw Lana trying to chase down clues on her own to figure out who was behind the bomb threats of the white supremacist group the Crusaders.

As the episode opened, Lana made a major discovery as she explained to boyfriend DI Thom Youngblood, played by Mark Stanley, that the previous bomb wiring technique had been done by a professional and it was a military-grade device - hinting at an inside job.

As Lana told Thom this, he said: “You did the right thing bringing this to me.”

Yet as Lana began to pursue her own investigation into who could be behind the deadly threats, Thom tracked her down and warned her off doing so - later giving the justification that he was in the offing for a DCI position and couldn’t tell her too much.

But given that the bomb makeup suggested a professional was involved, many fans took to Twitter to label Thom a “bent copper” with suspicion written all over him.

One fan wrote: “@Vicky_McClure #TriggerPoint that boyfriend is dodgy”, while another said: “Yep, the boyfriend is definitely a dodgy copper. #TriggerPoint,” with a side-eye emoji.

A fellow fan wrote: “I think lana's man is dodgy #TriggerPoint” as another tweeted: “Her fella is involved. #TriggerPoint”

Another viewer wrote: “Oh my god! Thom said ‘you did the right thing bringing this to me’ he is 100%, odds on, definitely definitely a baddie - that line is in the top 10 of the evil undercover baddies’ playbook #TriggerPoint”

Another fan labelled him a “wrong un” during the episode, while a fellow viewer said he was “very suspicious” and an “obvious bad guy”.

Thom is a senior member of the Metropolitan Police, who has grown particularly close to Lana in recent months - although Lana shared a kiss with Warren Brown’s character Karl Maguire, an old friend of the late Joel Nutkins.

Several fans tuning into the show last week were also convinced that Lana’s brother Billy was in on the plot, as her sibling caused havoc on the last episode by smashing the window of a halal butchers.

But this evening’s instalment saw Billy’s shocking demise as his car explode in the dramatic final moments of the episode.

The Crusaders had wired up his vehicle with an explosive device hidden under the steering wheel, which he triggered by opening the driver's door - before Lana had time to deactivate it.

Trigger Point returns to ITV Sundays at 9pm.
