ITV This Morning viewers totally bemused over guest's pronunciation of simple word

Viewers tuning into This Morning on Tuesday, April 11, were left bemused by the usually straight-forward pronunciation of the word 'accolade' causing them to question everything.

Appearing on the morning show on Tuesday, April 11 alongside Nick Ferrari and Easter holiday presenters Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle to discuss the morning headlines, Sonia Sodha - columnist for The Guardian and Observer - spoke about topics such as banning of the game 'tag' at one English school as well as the impressive win by Wrexham Association Football Club who played Notts County - read more on that here.

In the discussion, they talked about the 'stardom' its Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have given the club and as a result Sonia revealed they had been awarded with the Freedom of Wrexham - which is the "highlest accolade that Wrexham can bestow on anyone".

But it wasn't the story viewers were surprised by but the way she said the word 'accolade'. The typical pronunciation of it is 'a-kuh-layd', however Sonia emphasised the end of the word differently so it sounded like a-koh-lard'.

After the discussion of the team being on the verge of promotion to the next league and the fact that these Hollywood actors have given Wrexham glitzy status, Sonia said: "It's amazing, fancy two celebrities coming along and buying up your club? It's pretty amazing. They've been given some special accolade in Wrexham - the Freedom of Wrexham - which is the highest accolade that Wrexham can bestow on anyone. And you think fair dos, these guys have come in and saved the local football team."

After this, fans of the show rushed to Twitter to voice their confusion. One user wrote: "#thismorning “Acholard?” Sigh!" while another said: "What's an accolard #ThisMorning" A third commented: "Accolahd - it’s accoLAYde, silly twunt #thismorning"

"New game... see how many times you can drop 'Accolad' into a conversation before someone corrects you #ThisMorning," added another.

"#thismorning that's a new one for accolade. I didn't realise it was akk-o-lard. I thought it was more marmalade.." said a fifth.

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby will be returning to front the award-winning morning show next week after Josie, Craig, Alison Hammond, Dermot O'Leary and Joel Dommett have pulled together to help cover the show while the pair took their usual two week Easter break - much to the delight of regular This Morning viewers.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
