ITV This Morning viewers share concern after being left surprised by Maisie Smith and Kevin Clifton performance

This Morning viewers were left concerned as the cast of Strictly Ballroom took over the studio for a very special performance. Stars of the show, former Strictly Come Dancing pro Kevin Clifton and ex EastEnders star Maisie Smith were on the ITV daytime show on Friday (November 11) to chat about their latest roles.

The pair have been brought together on stage by Craig Revel Horwood who joined them on the famous sofa as the director of the latest version of Baz Lurhman's musical. Maisie, who competed in Strictly 2020 alongside now-boyfriend Max George, has taken on the role of enthusiastic beginner Fran.

Meanwhile, Kevin, who appeared on the BBC One dance contest from 2013 to 2019, plays the role of hero Scott Hastings in the reimaging of Baz Luhrmann's award-winning global film phenomenon and the nationwide tour kicked off back in September.

Speaking to Alison and Dermot about the show and their roles, Kevin revealed it was the role he had “always wanted”. He admitted: "I watched the movie when I was 10 years on and I said to my mum and dad, ‘One day they’re going to put this on stage and I want to play Scott Hastings.’ I turned 40 a couple of years ago so it’s been this 30 year journey to get here."

But Strictly judge Craig admitted he "wasn’t sure" about casting Kevin initially but soon changed his mind upon seeing his audition tape.

Alison also used Craig's visit into the studio to quiz him on the current 20th series of Strictly, which continues with week eight on Saturday night. "That’s a really difficult question because every week it’s different," he replied when asked by the presenter about his favourite couples.

Instead, Dermot asked: "Who surprised you?" to which Craig replied: “I love Hamza [Yassin]. There’s so many people I adore." He added: "I like to see someone come from the dance gutter and work there way up."

But it wasn't long before Alison and Dermot needed to wrap up their chat as Maisie and Kevin were all geared up to perform on the show with their fellow Strictly Ballroom cast. However, it didn't appear to impress all This Morning viewers.

@susie_retro tweeted: "Please stop it with the bloody musicals #ThisMorning I can't take anymore." @dhawke50 asked: "Can this show get anymore nauseating? #ThisMorning." @Samanth22356123 commented: "Why am I cringe giggling at this?! #ThisMorning." @littlebecca96x added: "So cringe, doesn't even sound good #Thismorning."

Others, however, were full of praise, especially for Kevin. @martingaming15 posted: "#ThisMorning WHAT! Kevin Clifton can sing! @thismorning." @Foldingstars295 tweeted: “Wow the Strictly Ballroom cast on #ThisMorning that was amazing!!! Made me realise how much I miss live musical theatre."

But there was a bit of concern as the special performance from the Strictly Ballroom cast started with the ensemble sitting and standing on the studio kitchen's worktops.

@Samanth22356123 said: "Hope John Torode’s gonna wipe that worktop before he cooks! #ThisMorning." @sarahhuxx commented: "I hope they're going to wipe that counter down #thismorning #johntorode." @missohlola wrote: "omg that woman [was] just on the worktop that John Torode is gonna cook on! #thismorning."

@onlysmols posted: "Excuse me can you get off the worktop John's got to cook on there later #ThisMorning." @IHEARTVEGAN added: "Bloody hell hope they wipe that counter down before it gets eaten on later #thismorning."
