This Morning fans think the show got off to an 'awkward' start as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield returned to screens. The hosting duo were back on-screen for their last show of the week.
Holly, 41, and Phillip, 60, host the ITV daytime programme from Monday to Thursday and returned for their first string of shows of 2023 earlier this week after a lengthy Christmas break. But the pair haven't had time to slow down as they had another jam-packed show on their hands on Thursday (January 12).
But rather than chatting amongst themselves and teasing viewers with what was to come on the latest two-and-a-half-hour episode, Holly and Phillip got stuck straight in and spoke to their first guest.
"Hiya, welcome to your Thursday This Morning," Phillip started. "We are starting today's show with a guest we just can't help falling in love with. They were then joined by an Elvis impersonator with Holly sharing his story. "Elvis is officially in the building... well sort of."
She continued: "After being offered voluntary redundancy from his job as a bus inspector, 52-year-old David Black decided to use the money to fulfill his dream of becoming an Elvis impersonator." Phillip was quick to ask if it was a 'childhood dream' to be Elvis to which David clarified: "I've always had a passion to be on the stage. I wanted my own show."
He says it was a trip to Vegas and a visit to a show with different impersonators, David became inspired. "I could see the crowd reaction and I looked at it from a professional view and thought, 'that's a great act, I want to do that'. Not that I wanted to be Elvis, because I don't."
And at the end of the chat, he treated the This Morning hosts and viewers to a quick performance. Before belting out Suspicious Minds, Holly explained that any streaming revenue from the release of his track is going to Cancer Rearch UK in memory of his mum and for the brother of his producer.
But viewers were quickly flocking to social media to have their say. @Josneat tweeted: "That wasn’t awkward at all! #ThisMorning." @MichelleBoudin_ wrote: "Feel like I've woke up in a Benidorm bar ...And I've never been to Benidorm but this is exactly how I imagine it to be #Thismorning #Elvis."
@FlopsyPickle pleaded: "Make it stop, please make it stop! It’s to early to listen to a bargain basement Elvis #ThisMorning." @JoviGirl_1980 posted: "This is an awkward interview #elvis #ThisMorning," before adding: "And an equally awkward performance #ThisMorning." But @kellymcc5 added: "I feel bad because he's doing it for charity but he's now performing #thismorning."
