This Morning viewers were left making the same comment as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield returned to screens. Those tuning into the ITV daytime show on Thursday (July 7) were a little thrown off at first as they were greeted by a group of drummers covered in face paint and in bright clothing.
The reason, however, was soon explained as the hosting duo appeared and looked very different to usual as they donned classic festival gear for a day at the This Morning forest. It was announced last year that ITV had purchased the woodland as part of a drive to 'go green' and stop the area from ever being built on.
Holly and Phillip hosted live from the forest last September but hadn't been back since - until today (Thursday). But things got off to a slightly weird start as the programme before, Lorraine Kelly's ITV show, had been pulled from air to make way for the breaking news that Boris Johnson will be resigning as Tory leader today.
As the presenters were able to welcome viewers to the show, they did immediately addresses the elephant in the room - or the forest if we're being technical about it.
Opening the show, Holly said: "We have brought the entire show here, back to our This Morning forest to throw our very own summer festival." She then added: "It's so nice to be back," before Phillip, 60, said: "It's not quite the morning that we had planned, obviously a little bit surreal today following the news Boris Johnson will resign as Prime Minister at some point today.
"Even though we have got our festival bands on we may crossover to Downing Street obviously at any point." Holly then delightfully said: "But for now, we're carrying on with our 'forestival'," throwing her arms up in the air to a round of cheers.
The duo then introduced The Bootleg Beatles for a performance of Beatles track 'Goodbye' which afterwards Phillip joked, while surrounded by dancers in metallic clothing, as the song ended Phil said: "Like Boris, they're in a very reflective mood."
But they were soon back to discussing the latest news headlines, aka the This Morning's View segment, and it all started with Boris Johnson. As they sat down to chat to their guests, Gyles Brandreth and Simon McCoy Holly joked: "Is this a Boris festival or a leaving party, what are we doing here?"
Phillip then said: "Well he's welcome to come down here and host his leaving drinks if he wants to, it's all legal now," another jibe at 'Partygate'. Later, Nick Heyward gave a live rendition of 'Fastastic Day' on the programme. And This Morning viewers couldn't help but have the same response.
@Zoei31 asked: "Is this a leaving party for Boris #ThisMorning." @LynseyCowell said: "@thismorning already throwing a party the Boris is resigning #ThisMorning." @SenorApple2014 tweeted: "Well… this isn’t one of the trippiest ways to celebrate Boris Johnson’s leaving. #ThisMorning."
@slygoodwin commented: "#ThisMorning The irony of having Nick Heyward singing 'Fantastic Day' on the day of Boris' resignation is not lost!!" @ThisIsMeUK1 echoed: "Turned on ITV's #ThisMorning and a bloke is on singing "Fantastic Day". Oh the irony!" @shieldsy_1979 queried: "Is it a coincidence Nick Heywood is performing fantastic day, today of all days #ThisMorning."
