Sir Cliff Richard was helping This Morning get viewers in the mood for Christmas as he stopped by for a chat and a special performance. The singer joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield live on the ITV daytime show on Tuesday (December 6).
Cliff was on hand to chat about his tour next year, titled The Blue Sapphire Tour, which kicks off in November and promote his new album, Christmas With Cliff, which is currently sitting behind Stormzy's third album, This Is What I Mean, in the UK album charts.
Speaking about his tour, which only featured limited dates and mainly at London's Eventim Apollo, Sir Cliff said: "I am going to tour next year. I am only doing about eight shows I think, the days of me going on tour for six months are way behind me."
He then confessed: "It is so terrifying to be on tour for lengths of time because you never know what day you are going to wake up and that [voice] is not going to work."
And Phillip soon asked the 82-year-old musician if he has any plans to retire as he approaches his mid-eighties. "We have all known artists who retire, they make four or five comebacks," he replied. "And every time I hear someone making a comeback I am thinking, 'They have run out of money' so I don't want anyone to say that about me.
"So I thought if I stop, it means I can stop working for a couple of years and then phone my management and say how about the Albert Hall for a couple of weeks."
Sir Cliff then gave fans a taste of what they can expect next year by performing his new single, ‘Heart Of Christmas’, with Holly saying he'll get them in the "Yuletide mood". And This Morning viewers appeared to enjoy the couple of minutes of festive indlugence. @StephenHavard said: "Cliff Richard certainly knows how to do a Christmas song. #ThisMorning."
@Honestly_Becky posted: "It’s a big old cheese-fest but what a wonderful witness Cliff Richard’s Christmas song 'Heart of Christmas' is. Well done for airing it #ThisMorning." @rebecaulfield shared: "It isn't Christmas until cliff releases a festive song #ThisMorning." @leaWalkerOF added: "Bloody love love love Sir Cliff #ThisMorning."
Others, however, couldn't help but wonder if Sir Cliff was actually singing live and flocked to social media to ponder the observation. @welshmummabear tweeted: "Lip syncing on @thismorning!!! Cmon Sir Cliff thought you were better than that!!! #ThisMorning."
@LevistonLisa questioned: "Cliff is he miming #ThisMorning." @Dangriffiths18 added: "Microphone by his waist but the Cliff Richards vocals still continue? XMAS MAGIC? #ThisMorning."
