ITV This Morning viewers ask 'what's wrong' with them as they watch Alison Hammond cook live on the show

This Morning viewers were left slightly baffled today when Alison Hammond briefly swapped her hosting duties for the kitchen. The presenter has been back at the helm of the ITV daytime show alongside Dermot O'Leary, kicking off the changing summer line-up.

Alison, 47, and Dermot, 49, spent much of the show teasing what was to come as Alison took to the hobs. But first, the pair chatted to former Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt about her new documentary, had a laugh with Paul Whitehouse and Les Dennis who will be sharing the iconic role of Grandad in Only Fools And Horses the musical and trying Phil Vickery's blueberry cakes - which he calls Blueberry Finger Diggles.

But soon enough it was time for Alison to shine after promising her co-host the most "delicious meal he’ll ever eat." The mum-of-one donned her apron and stood in the spot where viewers are used to seeing the likes of Phil, John Torode and Clodagh McKenna.

"Dermot, I hope you're ready because you are about to taste the most delicious meal you've ever tasted in my kitchen today," she told the former X Factor host. "This is Alison's Caribbean kitchen everybody!" She threw her arms in the air and Dermot banged his knife and fork in preparation.

"Sit back, relax... you don't have to do anything," Alison told Dermot who paused before replying with a laugh: "Can't I ask annoying questions?" She replied: "No annoying questions. This is my moment now," much to Dermot's dismay.

Alison then cracked on with making her chosen dish, corned beef and rice with fresh plantain, which comes after Phil whipped up some dishes with spam last week.

The former Big Brother star started by opening her tin corned beef and showing viewers how to do it which soon left them flocking to social media.

@NichollsLiese tweeted: "I cannot believe I am actually watching Alison opening a tin! What is wrong with me?!#thismorning." @Dc7073Bloss commented: "#ThisMorning Is Alison seriously showing us how to open a bloody corn beef tin? Has it come to that now?"

At the end of the segment, Dermot was seen tucking into Alison's c orned beef bolognese as she asked what he thought. "It's really nice," he said before Alison commented: "I've elevated, breathed life, into a simple can of corned beef."

And Alison was clearly proud as she took to Instagram after the show with a snap of herself stood in the This Morning kitchen. " A moment cooking my Mums corn beef and Rice ! cheap and cheerful dish . Breathing life into corn beef Jamaican style!" she penned alongside the photo.

She then shared a picture of the vibrant dish, writing: "Cornbeef and Rice Recipe on @thismorning App . Enjoy!!" with fans soon sharing their thoughts. @sarah_carr76 commented: "Looks fab! Love you and dermot so much you make me laugh so much!!!"

@e.m.illie said: "My favourite meal! We grew up on corned beef and rice." @homelifeat11 shared: "I hope the next book you bring out is a cook book you make it so easy @alisonhammond55." @lauraaajayneee1 added: "It looked amazing @alisonhammond55."
