ITV This Morning under fire for 'ignorant' money segment before Charlotte Church interview

This Morning has come under fire from viewers as they discussed ways to save money.

Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes were back at the helm of the ITV daytime programme on Monday.

One of the segments on the show saw the hosts joined by consumer journalist Alice Beer.

She was on hand to give advice to people who may be starting to feel or struggling with the rising cost of living.

But This Morning viewers were unimpressed by the advice - which included cancelling extra subscription services, cutting down on takeaway coffee - and recommending people decrease their heating by one degree or run their washing machine at a lower temperature.

@Hello_Lois tweeted: "They might as well have said just go to go sit in the dark and cry so you can afford your bills... With no coffee #ThisMorning."

"This segment is so ignorant. People can’t afford their bills because of “luxuries” like Netflix subscriptions. They can’t afford bills because there is no extra money to afford the raises #ThisMorning," @leeleeCThomas said.

@KeithSimons9 fumed: "#ThisMorning You make me laugh just turn it down 1° a box of food for £4.00 you are all taking the p**s out of us Why do we watch all you rich people compare prices .You have no shame."

The segment was then followed by an interview with Charlotte Church who was on the show to discuss transforming a £1.5m mansion into a wellness retreat.

Her mission is being documented in Charlotte Church's Dream Build, a TV series airing on Really and Discovery+.

When asked about the project, the Welsh singer, 35, said: "From the moment I saw that place I totally fell in love with it. It's huge, it's challenging, it's really exciting."

Rochelle then asked how she felt about gambling away her life savings to fund and complete the project.

"The way I think about it, I've been privileged all my life to have this career and success and the money and freedom that that brings," she said.

"It's only money, you've got to live a little."

And the running order for the show didn't sit well with viewers.

@JaszVegas said: "Seems a little bit in poor taste #ThisMorning having Charlotte Church on saying "it's only money" (in relation to building her wellbeing retreat.) When the section before was talking about what you can cut out of your life to afford rising electricity bills."

"#ThisMorning Normal people can't afford their fuel bills so lets talk about celebrities and their massive houses," @susie_retro tweeted.
