ITV This Morning's tribute blunder Paul O'Grady 'would have loved'

ITV made a blunder when paying tribute to Paul O'Grady on today's This Morning.

The day time talk show, hosted by Holly Willoughby and Joel Dommett, welcomed Sally Lindsay who was a close friend of the Birkenhead-born comedian. She looked tearful over the news that Paul had died suddenly aged 67.

Appearing via video link from her south east London home, the former Coronation Street actress remembered him fondly. She explained that they had been friends for a "long, long time" and found his death to be "quite a shock".

Sally said: "It's a big shock and everyone is devastated." She went on to say that she was always on his show, The Paul O'Grady Show.

As she was talking This Morning cut to a still image of what was supposed to be Sally chatting to Paul on his ITV show. But instead, it showed an image of EastEnders actress Jo Joyner sat on Paul's couch.

Sally burst out laughing as she pointed out the blunder. She said: "Oh that's Jo Joyner, that's not me! Everyone always gets up mixed up, that's hysterical."

Holly was quick to apologise as she said: "Oh yeah. Sorry about that." But Sally continued to laugh as she said: "Oh he would have loved that."

She carried on speaking about her friendship with Paul as she reminisced on the last time they spoke. Sally said: "The last time I spoke to him was last Thursday and he had to go because one of his pigs were ill. The vet was knocking on the door so that was the last time I spoke to him.

"I never thought it was the last time but you never do, do you? What I want to say about Paul is he was a whirlwind.

"He was funny, intelligent and there was no one like him. But what he was as well was a social warrior. He couldn't bear what was going on at the moment with the working class and the cost of living. He never lost his roots, he was always a very very real man."

She added: "There was no one like him. The world is a darker place today."
