ITV This Morning's Martin Lewis 'very unhappy' after Holly Willoughby's 'brave' statement

Holly Willoughby has been in the spotlight this week due to the ongoing reports of a 'feud' at This Morning.

But there was a dramatic moment in the ITV studios this week that had nothing to do with the supposed rift between Holly and co-host Phillip Schofield. Instead, it involved the host, 42, and Martin Lewis, as she admitted she was going to be very "brave" at one point and tell the money expert he was "wrong" about something.

Martin was appearing on the show on Tuesday, May 16 via video link from his North London home as he often does, reports Birmingham Live. He'd been answering questions from viewers and dishing out his advice as Holly said: "A viewer says 'I am under the weekly income threshold of under £214.60 but when I called the helpline I was told very abruptly that Martin Lewis was wrong...that's a brave person".

Holly then added: "Anyway, they were told they needed to be in receipt of Attendance Allowance which they are in the process of applying for and waiting for the forms to come through.

"I am so confused. This is about Pension Credit... what is the confusion here?"

Martin then put his head in his hands as he said: "OK. Pension Credit. That is a very, very annoying message to get. And I will explain again - there is a confusion here and I am also very unhappy to hear what the Pension Credit hotline has said."

Pension credit is aimed at people over state pension age and offers a top-up to income. It's made up of guarantee credit – this is the main part of pension credit, giving you a top-up of your weekly income to a minimum guaranteed level. For 2023/24, this is £201.05 a week if you're single, and £306.85 a week if you're in a couple. It's also made up of savings credit – for those who reached state pension age before April 2016, there's an extra boost available if you've made provision for your retirement via savings, work or a private pension.

Martin went on to explain this in a bit more detail and said he was sure one of the call handlers on the hotline was "just having a bad day" as he went on to highlight the fact customers usually can expect much better treatment if they call for pension advice.

ITV This Morning continues to air each weekday from 10am.
