Holly Willoughby quickly apologised after she couldn't help but give a natural reaction to a caller's story on This Morning. The presenter was back on the ITV daytime show on Thursday (June 16) alongside Phillip Schofield.
During their last show of the week, there was a jam-packed line up as they were joined live in the studio by R&B legend Alexander O'Neal as well as actor James Nesbitt who was on hand to chat about his new Channel 4 series, Suspect, but ended up making an interesting tattoo confession.
The hosts also headed outside for a delicious spread cooked up by DJ BBQ and Josie Gibson was live on the show from Royal Ascot. But as ever there was also a phone-in segment with Vanessa Feltz with viewers asked to call in to get advice on issues they're having with their ex.
One person who called in to the show, known as 'Lucy', explained how her ex-boyfriend tried to get in touch with her to reunite even though he has a partner. But not only that, he decided to reach out after already meeting up with her parents.
She told Vanessa and hosts Holly and Phillip: "So I split up with my boyfriend about eight years ago. During lockdown, he contacted my family and he asked to speak to me. We had a bit of a catch-up and he admitted he still has feelings for me. I'm now openly gay, which he knows about."
She continued: "I've not heard from him for about a year or so and I received a message from him a few weeks ago to say he'd met up with my parents and asked if I wanted to catch up as well. I confronted my mum about this - she didn't think she'd done anything wrong. She wants us to be friends, she's still very fond of him, and I feel quite betrayed that she did that."
Phillip then asked her if she has a partner herself, to which she answered: "No I'm still single but he does have a partner." It was at this point that Holly shared her shock and let out a 'Jesus' before quickly saying: "Sorry, sorry, sorry. I didn't expect it."
The 41-year-old's co-host appeared to find her response funny while Holly quickly returned to being professional and continued to share her view. She said: "If that was my daughter - say this was Belle in this situation, and some guy was coming who had a partner. I'd be like what a treacherous little so-and-so, cheating on his partner and coming round here."
But the story did leave This Morning viewers divided. @fionach1 tweeted: "#Thismorning I think Lucy is taking it too personally. I am very close to my sons ex girlfriend of 6 years. She has a new life and a child with someone else but I love her like my daughter. My son knows this and accepts it. it's not pretence."
@is_toxicc said: "Man poor girl, I say he sounds like trouble. So proud of Lucy for living her true self tho #ThisMorning."
