ITV This Morning's Gyles Brandreth says he feels 'naked' as he makes change and segment comes under fire

Gyles Brandreth was slightly more exposed than normal as he appeared on This Morning. The former politician turned TV star was back on the ITV daytime show alongside Camilla Tominey on Monday (July 18).

The pair were on hand to help the show's hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary discuss the latest news headlines in the daily 'This Morning's View' segment which of course had a heavy focus on the weather thanks to the current record temperatures much of the country are experiencing.

It comes as the Met Office issued an extreme weather warning with temperatures in some areas of the UK expected to reach highs of 40 degrees at the start of this week.

But there was something rather different about Gyles after he sparked concern and confusion among This Morning viewers last week. Royal commentator Camilla asked her co-star: "Are you feeling naked without a jumper on?"

"Can I say, I'm feeling completely... I've been quite awkward," he said before Camilla added: "It's because you've not got your jumper on."

Gyles continued: "I do feel a bit uncomfortable, I've got the jumper downstairs and I'll be putting it on when I go out, the reason I put a jumper on outside is, because if you get cool outside, it's like a thermos flask and it keeps you cool, that's my idea with the jumpers."

And fans of the show found it just as surprising. @DinghyDiver tweeted: "Gyles ditches his jumper? What kind of sorcery is this? #thismorning." @MiniSotaAnu commented: "Gyles isn't wearing a jumper today, so you KNOW the weather is extremely hot. #ThisMorning."

@TraylorHolmes echoed: "You know it’s hot when Gyles Brandreth isn’t wearing a jumper! #ThisMorning." @jennielouu said: "Gyles doesn’t look right without his snazzy jumpers #ThisMorning." @Charlie__Tweets wrote: "Weird not seeing Giles in a jumper #ThisMorning. Though it makes complete sense he isn’t." @demelcy added: "Giles in a shirt.... wow #ThisMorning."

Meanwhile, some viewers were left annoyed by the commentating on the weather. Alison described the UK's current temperatures as "unbelievable" as she explained that London is hotter than the Sahara Desert, Kingston Jamaica and Malaga today.

She then asked: "I wanna know do you think the infrastructure is actually in place for us here?" to which Camilla replied: "Probably not. There was somebody from the railways on the radio this morning saying the railways are only really prepared for 35 degrees, so anything above... and this morning we've all had travel chaos.

"And then you think, 'come on, it's just a bit weather'. I mean if you're in somewhere like Abu Dhabi or Dubai, it's like this for weeks and weeks and weeks throughout the summer.

"Having said that, they're all kitted out. I think our problem at home is that we don't have air con, we're not prepared for this. But with temperatures rising, maybe we're gonna have to recalibrate because maybe we're gonna get more long, hot summers the way this is going," she continued.

Sharing his thoughts, Dermot then joked: "I'm amazed that we talk about the weather like it's not gonna change in two days!" Camilla added: "But also we don't need these sorts of warnings when we go on our holidays do we? If you go on holiday, to say Dubai, be sensible, take some water, wear a hat, well we know this stuff!"

But @PedroCabanna fumed: "Honestly. What is wrong with these people? This isn’t just nice sunny weather. 40° is not normal. People are going to die. We’re not set up for it #ThisMorning the difference is in holiday there’s air con, pools and no work! It’s not that difficult to understand."

@JenJenivive shared: "38-40 degrees is not normal weather for the UK. Air conditioning is not standard in the UK. So we have the right to moan about it being too hot over the next couple of days #thismorning."
