Clodagh McKenna appeared to irritate This Morning viewers as she made a repeated blunder while talking about the Queen. Viewers are used to seeing the Irish chef in the kitchen on the ITV daytime show.
But on Tuesday (September 20), Clodagh joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on the famous sofa. She was accompanied by her husband Harry Herbert as they spoke to the hosts about attending the Queen's funeral on Monday. Billions of people watched as Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest in a televised ceremony.
And Clodagh and her husband were among the 2,000 members of the royal family, dignitaries and VIP guests who were in Westminster Abbey for the poignant service before another 800 people attended the Queen's equally as moving committal at St George's Chapel in Windsor.
Talking about the reason they were present at the Queen's funeral, they explained how Harry’s late father, the Earl of Carnarvon, was the monarch’s “best friend”. Harry’s dad, who was given the title Lord Porchester, was the Queen‘s racehorse trainer meaning Harry grew up spending time with Queen.
And when Clodagh and Harry, who got married last year and live in the grounds of Highclere Castle, started dating in 2017 after being introduced through mutual friends at a Fortnum and Mason lunch, the chef got the chance to meet Her Majesty.
But as she recalled the moment she met the late monarch, This Morning viewer couldn't help but notice Clodagh made a bit of an error. "I only started getting nervous when we were driving down to Milford, Lady Carnarvon’s house, where the Queen used to come and stay," she began.
"I remember walking in and [Harry’s sister] Carolyn said to me: ‘Do you know how to curtsey?’ And I said: ‘No, do I have to curtsy?’ I was like oh my god she’s going to be here any minute so I quickly learned to curtsy."
As she told the story, instead of saying curtsy, Clodagh repeatedly said courtesy. @Crazier tweeted: "#thismorning WTF! Clodagh it’s Curtsey not Courtesy!!" @UrskaLouisa wrote: "People mixing up "curtsey" and "courtesy" is one of my biggest pet peeves. #ThisMorning."
@Boppity_Boo34 asked: "Did Clodagh say courtesy instead of courtesy #ThisMorning." @Gm4nHere posted: "It’s curtsey, not courtesy, Clodagh. #ThisMorning." But someone also corrected them to remind them the spelling is 'curtsy'.. Others, however, spoke in her defence.
@Boppity_Boo34 tweeted in response: "Yes, but then again she's Irish and we don't grovel before royalty. It's not a word that would be ever used here."
