ITV This Morning's Alison Hammond tells viewers of moment she 'really thought I was going to die'

This Morning host Alison Hammond interviewed Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas on Friday, June 30 and shared with her details about the time she thought she was "going to die".

The dancer and choreographer is taking part in a Skyatholon at the start of August, which will see the 62-year-old - who has a fear of heights and "doesn't even like flying" - take on a zipline, a (plane) wing walk and a skydive to raise money for suicide prevention charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

Upon asking Alison if she had done any adrenaline activities similar to those, the 48-year-old recalled one time in Jamaica when she went on a zipline - but it wasn't quite as enjoyable. She said: "I did a zipline in Jamaica once. It was awful. I also did a um..."

Cutting in, Alison's co-host Dermot O'Leary tried to flip the negativity on its head and laughed: "Let's give her a pep talk. Be the love and light that we love."

"In my head, the cable was breaking and I really did think I was going to die," Alison continued. "And then when I got on the floor, I cried my eyes out in relief. But I'm sure you'll be fine, Shirley."

"Do I need my big girl panties in case I wet myself?" Shirley asked Alison, who said: "Yeah, you might need [them]."

Speaking about why she is doing the challenge - which begins on August 8 - Shirley explained to Alison and Dermot: "I lost my brother to suicide 20 years ago and recently, two weeks ago, I lost a student - aged 38 - also to suicide. So I just thought to myself, what could I do that would get people's attention to draw attention to a fantastic place where people can go [for help]. So I decided, along with CALM, to do these challenges to collect as much money as we possibly can."

She added after being asked how she's feeling about it: "I'm most happiest when I have my cha-cha shoes on the dancefloor [so] I'm very apprehensive about the whole thing, but I will do it for everybody out there who's lost a loved one, who's got somebody who's living miserably."
