ITV This Morning paused for Alison Hammond announcement seconds into show before she stuns co-stars with urinating remark

Alison Hammond finally got her moment as This Morning was paused for her own announcement seconds into the show. The presenter was back fronting the ITV daytime show on Friday (October 28) alongside her co-host Dermot O'Leary.

And after missing out on a gong at the National Television Award in the presenter category which was won for the 21st time by Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly, Alison had an update. While she hadn't prized the coveted NTA from the Geordie duo, she did win a whole different award.

The 47-year-old TV icon bagged an award at the 2022 Ethnicity Awards after being nominated alongside the likes of BBC News' Clive Myrie and Loose Women's Charlene White.

As music played out in the studio at the start of the last show of the week, Dermot, 48, started to share the news. Eventually able to take over and share the news herself, a smiling Alison said: "I’ve finally got an award everyone! Obviously, we’re not defined by awards and trophies in life but today I am defined by it, I’ve got a trophy which means I’m a good presenter."

She then thanked the This Morning team - and everyone in the studio at that time including chef Ainsley Harriot, before saying she ‘couldn’t have done this without you darling’ to co-host Dermot and that she wouldn’t be here without all the crew who work behind the scenes.

Alison then spoke of her own mum who tragically died in February 2020 after a battle with liver and lung cancer, months before the star's biological dad Clifford died in Jamaica. The mum-of-one said the award "would have meant an absolute pleasure to my mum," saying she "was with [her]" at the ceremony held on Thursday night.

Following her win, Alison took to Instagram to share a video of herself glammed up in a shimmering gold gown for the evening with her award as well as featuring other clips from her night. "I won !! @ethnicityawards wow what a fab night." This Morning co-star Holly Willoughby was among the first to reply, writing: "Congratulations beautiful."

Strictly Come Dancing star Johannes Radebe, who enjoyed a dance with the award winner, said: "So proud of you beautiful." This Morning's very own baker Juliet Sear, commented: "You are literally smashing everything Alison and this is so brilliant!!" While former Loose Women star Saira Khan added: "Well deserved girlfriend."

Meanwhile, after a brief moment of celebration on This Morning today, it was time to crack on with the show and Alison and Dermot were joined by Gyles Brandreth and Matthew Wright for the latest This Morning's View segment. Among the stories they dicussed was one of fed up villagers in Oxnead who have put up signs after becoming sick of having to deal with weddings guests 'six days a week.'

After Gyles spoke about weddings being on a bigger scale these days, Alison said: "Imagine it Gyles; you've got people urinating," as the Celebrity Gogglebox star looked disturbed by her comment. Alison continued, adding: "You've got the Sweeeeet Caroliiiine, every single night you hear Sweet Caroline, you know what I mean?" But a visibly disgusted Gyles replied: "What sort of weddings are you going to?!"

An equally as baffled Dermot also responded: "I love that that was the first thing you said: 'Imagine it, people urinating.' First thing that comes to your mind at a wedding." Gyles then looked at Alison and told her: "No matter how glamorous your fascinator, I am not going to a wedding with you," as Alison sat creased up with laughter on the sofa.

While on the topic of weddings, Alison shared a hilarious story about how she once gatecrashed a wedding in her dressing gown. She explained that she was staying at a hotel and had been given a garden room when it happened. "In the morning, I opened the garden room, little robe on, and next thing I know I was in a wedding,2 she explained. "I had the bride looking at me - she was like 'That's Alison Hammond!' - but she was supposed to be looking at her groom..."

"And I was like 'Hi!' like that," Alison added with a wave. "So I thought I'm gonna pull up a chair because I might as well be part of this. So I pulled up a chair, I'm in my robe and I'm just watching this wedding at the hotel. I loved it." Dermot asked: You didn't know them?" to which Alison responded with: "No, I didn't know them at all - but by the end of the evening they had me in the party. It was great!" Dermot then joked: "Was there any urination?", with Alison replying "Um" while grinning before the pair burst into laughter.
