ITV This Morning fans spot Dermot O'Leary's subtle remark in first show since Phillip Schofield exit

This Morning viewers were taken aback as they spotted Dermot O'Leary's telling remark on today's show.

The broadcaster fronted Monday's episode of ITV's flagship daytime programme alongside Alison Hammond. It was the first This Morning since Phillip Schofield announced he had quit ITV last week.

The hosts did not immediately address the controversy at the start of the show. He said: "Well hello, how was your weekend."

Fans following the show on Twitter claimed the way Dermot stressed "your" provided an insight into his weekend after the show was hit with controversy after Mr Schofield's exit.

TV critic, Scott Bryan, said: "#ThisMorning starts with this line by Dermot O’Leary. “Good morning. How was YOUR weekend?”

@mostylstupid said: "How was YOUR weekend, Dermot? Nice? Quiet? Relaxing?"

Kathryn commented: "Wuh, how was your weekend?

Brekkietweets posted: "How was YOUR weekend?" - perhaps that's all that is really needed. Referenced and moved on"

Dermot turned to his co-host after the comment and gave her a supportive handshake as he said: "How are you my love? Good to see you."

The two did address the controversy before they discussed the morning headlines. Dermot said: "We happen to be in the news at the moment and of course we appreciate that, but just from both of us and the whole team here, the crew, the guys downstairs, we love making this show for all of you."

Alison added: "We really do and that's exactly what we're going to do. We're going to continue doing that so let's go on with our first news story."
