ITV This Morning fans make hosting claim as Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson team up

This Morning fans were treated to another new hosting duo during the last episode of the week.

The ITV daytime show was back in its slot on Friday with Alison Hammond.

But her usual co-host, Dermot O'Leary was nowhere to be seen.

Instead, the 47-year-old presenter was joined by her fellow This Morning star and good pal, Josie Gibson.

After introducing the show, Alison addressed Dermot's absence saying he had "got a well-deserved day off."

"He's having a little break, but I am happy because we've got you," she added, turning to Josie. "How are you?"

"Thank you for having me, Al," Josie replied.

"Who would have thought it, a Bristolian and a Brummie presenting This Morning?"

"It's happened," Alison added before continuing: "It was always going to happen, but do you know what I was thinking...

"We come from the Big Brother days. We've got a winner and a loser."

"I didn't want to say anything, Al," Josie joked as they continued with the show.

It is the first time Alison, 47, and Josie, 37, have hosted the show together.

Despite spending years appearing as a presenter on the show, Josie finally got a chance at the main hosting gig last year when Holly Willoughby was off sick.

She co-hosted alongside Phillip Schofield and has returned multiple time since with the likes of Vernon Kay and Holly herself.

As the pair battled through the show with a new head-to-head game of What the hack?, a chat and performance from Tony Hadley, and some advice from pest control expert Dan Dobson, This Morning viewers were having their say about the new duo on social media.

And it came with some big claims.

@PurpleAutumn tweeted: "I prefer Josie & Alison. I think they gel better than Alison & Dermot #ThisMorning."

"#ThisMorning Absolutely loving Josie and Alison on today. Best coupling in years. So upbeat and funny. Please make them permanent," @Allie2506 said.

@dpowis shared: "Think I prefer Alison with Josie #ThisMorning."

"Loving @AlisonHammond & @Josiestweet presenting @thismorning today! This is the presenting duo we've wanted for some time! #ThisMorning," @ZTowning wrote.

And @mrscarter22 added: "@thismorning Loved having on @Josiestweet with @AlisonHammond Much better atmosphere, the chat flowed freely, there was an even balance of presenting. I don't see why it can't be the two women. Especially if it's working so well #ThisMorning."
