ITV This Morning doctor's warning of common health condition people need to know about

Dr Zoe Williams has urged people to take more care of their gut health.

The medical expert is renowned for her role on This Morning. Dr Zoe regularly joins Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield to share medical tips.

She has now partnered up with Activia to raise awareness on the importance of looking after your gut health. She said: "The gut has so many amazing connections which impact many different aspects of our health. For example, it plays a vital role in regulating our immune system.

However, research from Activia reveals a serious lack of understanding and confusion when it comes to what the gut’s role is, how it functions and how we can look after it.

Research from Activia found the issue is a problem on Merseyside as the study also found 77% of those in Liverpool don't prioritise gut health - with 45% revealing they’d only worry about this if their GP told them to.

This is despite many of those polled suffering with symptoms which could indicate gut issues like heartburn (20%), fatigue (23%), bloating (17%) and constipation (19%). The study was carried out through One Poll and Activia suggests many people have a hesitancy to look after their guts due to embarrassment.

However, a spokesperson for the yoghurt brand said they are determined to break this stigma to get people looking after their gut health. They said: "There are a lot of things you can be doing to ensure you keep your gut healthy and a little bit of knowledge goes a long way.

“It’s important to have open discussions about gut health in order to raise awareness and really break the taboo.”

Dr Zoe has teamed up with Activia for the launch of the 'What the Gut' museum exhibition in London. They shared some symptoms that people looking after their gut health should be aware of:

- Diarrhoea
- Constipation
- Bloating of the abdomen
- Stomach cramps
- Gas
- Fatigue
- Bad breath
- Weight fluctuations
- Low mood
- Skin issues e.g. acne/dry skin
- Heartburn

Dr Zoe's tips to look after gut health:

- Eat enough fibre.
- Add a range of colourful fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet.
- Eat mindfully.
- Stick to a schedule.
- Get plenty of rest
- Feel good through exercise
- Reduce stress
