ITV The Masked Singer reveal hailed 'best ever' as famous married couple unmasked as Cat and Mouse

On Saturday night's episode of The Masked Singer, the characters Knitting, Jellyfish, Phoenix, Otter and Cat and Mouse stepped back in time for a Time Machine special with songs from across different eras. After captivating the celeb panellists and the audience watching the ITV guessing game at home, it was time to unveil and send home the third celebrity of the series.

Last weekend singing superstar Lulu turned out to be Piece of Cake, and in the first episode on New Year's Day there was a heartwarming moment as Ghost was revealed as the recently honoured football legend Chris Kamara. The much-loved former footballer and pundit been inundated with support following the release of his documentary which shone a light on his battle with a speech disorder.

Tonight (January 14) Cat and Mouse became the next characters to be unmasked and jaws dropped as they were revealed to be showbiz couple, husband and wife Martin and Shirlie Kemp. Shirlie, 60, shot to fame in the 80s with Wham! and as part of the singing duo Pepsi & Shirlie and Martin, 61, is best known as the bassist in the band Spandau Ballet and for his role as villain Steve Owen in EastEnders from 1998 to 2002.

Davina McCall, who has been a member of the star guessing panel for all four series, gasped: "That was the best reveal ever. That blew my mind." And fellow panellist Mo Gilligan said he was "so close" after writing down "Celebrity Gogglebox," which the family have starred in.

The couple made show history as the first ever duo. Asked if their son, Capital Breakfast DJ Roman Kemp, knew that they had taken part, Shirlie said after their unmasking, "No this is going to embarrass him. Most people say they are doing it for their kids." Martin added, "We're doing it to embarrass them."

Asked if they enjoyed it, Shirlie said, "I've never done anything so nerve wracking in my life." And asked "what did you think of your masks, your overall look and the character you got to play?", Martin said: "We loved it so much. You literally become possessed when you put the mask on."

Next Saturday the remaining characters, Fawn, Jacket Potato, Pigeon, Rhino and Rubbish will be taking to the stage to sing in disguise. The Masked Singer, Saturdays at 7pm on ITV1 & ITVX
