Viewers of The Masked Dancer had a major complaint to make as the final of the competition aired. The bonkers show returned to screens for the final time this series on Saturday night (October 22). It was just Scissors, Pearly King, and Onomatopoeia left to be unmasked after weeks of clues and moves.
Fans had had their eye on Scissors from the very beginning with celebrity names such as Amanda Holden, Ashley Roberts, and Cat Deeley. But while some had already correctly guessed who was behind the winning character, others were shocked to see Glee star Heather Morris has been crowned the winner of The Masked Dancer after being unveiled as Scissors.
The US actress and professional dancer saw off competition from Australian stage and screen star Adam Garcia, who was disguised as Onomatopoeia and former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli who dazzled the audience as Pearly King.
Heather is best known for her role as Brittany Pierce in comedy drama series Glee and has gone on to have a successful dance career. She also competed on Dancing With The Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, in 2017.
After being crowned as the champion, she told host Joel Dommett: "I have had the best time. Seriously, this has made my heart so full." She also revealed that she was one of two back-up dancers for Beyonce’s hit song Single Ladies.
Heather added that her children inspired her to take part in the show, saying: “My kids at home, I have two boys, we are huge Masked fans. "My oldest, during the pandemic, would make masks himself… when I got the call for this, hands down, of course I’m going to do this, my kids will be in awe of me."
Earlier in the show, it was revealed that Pearly King was professional dancer and judge Bruno. Asked why he signed up to the show, he joked: "I said, ‘Singer, oh yeah, I’ll do it. Dancer? You’ve got to be kidding me!’ You should always read your contract." Onomatopoeia was unmasked to be Adam, who told Joel: “I always step away from dancing and then something brings me back, and I realise, that’s right, I love dancing, it brings joy.”
The show’s panel also underwent a change as Peter Crouch, Davina McCall, and Oti Mabuse were joined by guest Dawn French and comedian John Bishop who was standing in for Jonathan Ross who was bleived to be ill at the time of filing to oversee proceedings as the 2022 series came to a close.
But after the final three reveals, The Masked Dancer viewers flocked to social media to point out one main issues they had with the final line-up. @luckyb29 said: "Can’t help feeling a bit disappointed with the winner of #MaskedDancerUK and that’s not because she wasn’t any good because she was brilliant and deserved a win but because I feel I’ve wasted weeks guessing only to find out I have no idea who she is!!!"
@XxLadyClaireXx tweeted: "Sorry, I don’t know who Heather Morris is. #MaskedDancerUK." @snidetash fumed: "#MaskedDancerUK should change it’s name to the masked stranger because that’s essentially what it is. Strangers who no one knows who the f**k they are." @dee_mcbee wrote: "This is like me watching masked singer usa and having no clue who the unmasked people are #MaskedDancerUK."
But others were happy with the result. @spanferina said: "If you don’t know who Heather Morris is…..then you need to watch Glee immediately! One of my favourite series ever made, everyone on their is a legend #MaskedDancerUK." @MadsMarie610 tweeted: "HEATHER MORRIS WON THE MASKED DANCER UK HELLO LEGEND???"
