ITV The Chase viewers spot legendary movie actor lookalike contestant

Viewers of award-winning game show The Chase thought they had spotted a legendary movie actor's lookalike on tonight's episode.

Regular viewers of the ITV programme will know that fans who watch along on Twitter are very fond of picking out a doppelganger, so many were excited when they saw 60-year-old Ron.

The footwear supervisor from Rochester appeared on Monday's show and people watching at home felt he bore a striking resemblance to the late Oliver Reed.

The English actor, who starred in films such as Oliver!, The Three Musketeers, Tommy and Gladiator died of a heart attack in 1999 at the age of 61 while taking a break from filming Gladiator in Valletta, Malta.

Movie fans got a blast from the past when Ron stepped up to take on chaser Mark 'The Beast' Lambett.

With his greying quiff and handlebar moustache, many saw the resemblance

Taking to Twitter, one @CliveinEngland said: "Ron thinks he is Oliver Reed."

Another, @beardedtarquinn said: "#TheChase this evening with Oliver Reed"

A third, @stanleyrhino said: "C'mon Oliver Reed."

Ron put in an impressive performance in the cash builder, bringing back £7,000 for the team after taking on the chaser.

He and fellow contestant, Diane, went up against The Beast in the final chase for £12,000, scoring 16, but it wasn't enough and they left with nothing.

*The Chase is on ITV1, weekdays from 5pm
