ITV The Chase's the Beast Mark Labbett breaks silence on controversial player who 'sabotaged' her team

Mark Labbett, star of ITV's smash hit quiz show The Chase , has spoken out about yesterday's controversial player.

Drama graduate Hannah, from Swansea, caused a Twitter storm on yesterday's episode after taking the low offer of minus £5,000 from the Beast.

Hannah made it through to the final chase by opting for the low offer but the Beast said the team would have been better "with an empty chair" instead.

The final round caused even more controversy among fans, as Hannah didn't answer a single question - until the team were given a crucial push back on the penultimate question with just 11 seconds to spare.

Host Bradley asked the Beast what was the UK's most venomous spider but the Chaser passed on the question, giving the team a moment of hope at bagging the £39,000 jackpot.

Fellow contestant Paul, who brought £30,000 back to the team, said he believed it to be a False Widow, while Hannah said she thought it was a Daddy Long-Legs.

The team made the decision to go with Hannah's answer, only for host Bradley to reveal Paul had been correct and the four players lost the jackpot when the Beast was able to answer the final question in the remaining time.

There was a huge reaction on Twitter to the final moments of the show, with #TheChase and #daddylonglegs both becoming trending hashtags.

Taking to Twitter , Mark Labbett didn't pull any punches about Hannah's performance on the show.

The Beast said: " #thechase nothing beats a full house....unless they beat themselves:) in a pub quiz or on telly never throw in a wild guess just to hear the sound of your own voice"

And added: "Poor girl effectively played for me and sabotaged her own team, replace her with an empty chair and they may well have won."

Many people replied to the Beast's tweets echoing his comments.

Logan said: "Why did they listen to her? Someone even said false widow."

Jackie said: "Quality shooting self in foot. Was an epic episode."

Though Andy saw the positive side and said: "It just makes for classic TV comedy. It's contestants like this that make the chase the fantastic show it is."
