ITV The Chase: How Chasers decide how much money to offer players

The Chase offers its contestants big money, but only a few actually leave with the grand prize.

Players not only have to beat the highly-intelligent chasers once, but twice.

The biggest win ever recorded on the regular version of The Chase was £100,000 split between four contestants at the expense of Anne “The Governess” Hegerty in 2019.

After their initial cash builder round, it's time to face the chaser for the first time - and then they'll give three different offers for contestants to choose from.

But how do they decide on the amounts?

The Chasers are the ultimate obstacle when it comes to securing lump sums of money, but they actually have very little control over the things that happen on the show, MyLondon reports.

The brainiacs do not see the questions in advance, they don’t have any knowledge of the contestants they will be up against and contrary to popular belief, they do not pick the amount of money up for grabs.

How much money contestants will be offered is actually decided by the show's producers, with the amounts unveiled before the episode begins.

This news will come as a big surprise to many viewers back home due to the way the show is presented.

During the portion of the show where the Chaser offers the sum of money up for grabs, they often do so with very little hesitation.

This lack of hesitation gives the impression that they are in fact the one responsible for the decision and also makes it seem like they make the decision on the spot, but neither of these are true.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITV Hub
