ITV have suspended their scheduled programming for an ITV News special about Queen Elizabeth as concern for her health grows. Following Tipping Point airing, the broadcaster announced that an ITV News special would be airing from 5pm onwards, replacing The Chase.
It is unclear how long it will air for, but it is likely to run into the usual news segment, which begins at 6pm and airs for an hour-and-a-half before Emmerdale. Concern had grown for the Queen's health following an update from Buckingham Palace on the Monarch's health.
A statement released today by Buckingham Palace read: “Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”
ITV's royal editor Chris Ship confirmed the schedule change in a tweet, which read: "Given today’s developments @itvnews will be on air for a special news programme at 5pm on @ITV with @nightingaleitv #queen."
As the channel switched to ITV News coverage, there were live pictures from Balmoral, where the Queen is said to be comfortable and resting. Her family are either already there or are making their way to be with her.
Earlier today, the BBC pulled their usual programming in favour of a rolling news item about the Queen's health. It was helmed by Huw Edwards. During their coverage, he was joined by Royal Editor Nicholas Witchell, who spoke of his concerns for the Queen.
