ITV Starstruck's Olly Murs confirms show's fate after final result blunder

Olly Murs has spoken out to confirm that Starstruck will return for a third series, after a chaotic blunder led to some ITV viewers finding out the result of Saturday's final, before Olly announced it on the show.

As soon as it made its debut last year, Starstruck became a guilty pleasure for millions of viewers, as they watched fans of music legends transform into their idols, to perform for a star studded judging panel and studio audience.

There was a change of personnel for the talent show's second run, with That Don't Impress Me Much singer Shania Twain replacing Sheridan Smith. After a few weeks' absence due to music commitments, Shania was back for Starstruck's semi final and grand finale, along with colleagues Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight and Jason Manford.

Earlier in the series Shania even sat and watched as three fans became her for the night, although ultimately none of them made it through to the final; with the battle being between tributes to Ed Sheeran, Sam Cooke, Tom Jones, Beyonce, Sam Smith and Adele.

And, in the end, after the crowd in the studio had their say, it was Adele doppelganger Abbie Edwards who took home the £50,000 prize. However, while many viewers were in agreement that Abbie was the deserved champion, the Starstruck result was surrounded by controversy, after the outcome of the pre-recorded final was revealed on YouTube, before host Olly had the chance to announce it.

Fans took to Twitter, upset that their enjoyment of the final had been hampered in the closing minutes, but, not addressing any of the complaints, Olly spoke out in the aftermath of Saturday's show to confirm that Starstruck will be back.

Taking to his social media accounts to share photos of himself on set, with the judges and winner Abbie, the former X Factor runner-up and Troublemaker singer wrote: "WELL DONE TO OUR STARSTRUCK CHAMP ABBIE. Incredible final last night well done! Thanks to you all for watching, I’ve had the best time working on this show again, the judges were awesome as ever plus the amazing team behind it all putting it together! Stay cheeky and I’ll see ya soon for Season 3."
