ITV shakeup as Emmerdale and Coronation Street cancelled for six days

An ITV schedule shake up will mean Coronation Street and Emmerdale don't air for almost a week due to FIFA World Cup coverage.

The football tournament is being held in Qatar and will run until December 18, and UK coverage of the football matches has been split between the BBC and ITV thus far.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale have so far aired at different times to normal, and this is set to continue.

Emmerdale usually airs weekdays for half an hour from 7.30pm, with an hour long episode on Thursdays, whilst Coronation Street usually airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 8pm each week. But for six days from Thursday (December 1), neither soap will be broadcast as ITV instead covers the action on the pitch.

The good news for soap fans, though, is that there'll be three episodes of Coronation Street and two episodes of Emmerdale before the six-day break.

Viewers can tune in to Coronation Street for an hour from 9.15pm on Monday (November 28). There'll be more hour-long episodes on Tuesday and Wednesday (November 29 and 30), both at 8pm.

Emmerdale will air hour-long episodes on Tuesday and Wednesday, both at 7pm. According to ITV listings, the soaps will not air again until the following Wednesday, December 7.

During the World Cup, every Monday viewers can also watch the full week's episodes of both soaps on their ITV streaming service whether it be ITVX or ITVHub.

Niall Sloane, ITV director of sport, previously said: "The World Cup is now in focus and we’re delighted to be able to bring viewers coverage of what promises to be some of the standout games of the tournament across ITV channels and our new free streaming service ITVX, which launches this autumn."
