ITV's Vera sparks worldwide mystery over 'missing' episodes as fans seek answers

In a mystery that could be taken straight from the plot of the much loved drama, fans across the world have been left wondering what's just going on with Vera and the show's 'missing episodes.'.

The exploits of DCI Stanhope, taken from the pages of author Ann Cleeves' popular books about the now iconic character, have been on screens on ITV for over a decade now. Vera's popularity showing no sign of waning; just ask the disappointed fans who couldn't get their hands on tickets for the Viva Vera event in Whitley Bay, after a frenzy for tickets at the end of last week.

Those who missed out even directly contacted Vera leading lady Brenda Blethyn on social media to ask if there was a chance of another date being added. And another query directed at the BAFTA winning actress is just when the final two episodes of Vera series 11 will be on TV.

And it's no longer just viewers in the UK who have grown impatient for the last two instalments of the current run will be available to watch, Australian fans are now also searching for answers. Vera series 11's run on ITV has now been disrupted twice. There was great excitement at the end of August when, after a Covid enforced delay to filming a year earlier, the first two episodes were broadcast in the drama's usual Sunday night slot.

But, just as DCI Stanhope devotees were getting used to having the no nonsense sleuth back on screen, she disappeared again, due to production on the remaining parts still being ongoing. That was wrapped up in Autumn 2021 so it came as a blow to viewers at the start of this year when, after episodes three and four pulled in millions, the pause button was pressed on series 11 again.

Vera was pulled off screen to make way for The Good Karma Hospital and Trigger Point, with an ITV drama spokesperson saying they had "no news" on when it would return. Disappointed fans were left even more upset when they found out US based Vera fans got to watch the remaining episodes on BritBox in the States.

As well as British viewers continuing to ask Brenda and ITV for answers, Aussie viewers have now asked ABC, Vera's broadcaster over there when they'll get their next fix. One tweeted the channel to ask: "Can you tell me when episodes 5 and 6 of Series 11 of Vera will be going to air or available on iView? It looks like the release dates in the UK were in January, straight after eps 1 to 4."

A second viewer Down Under quizzed: "can you please tell me when Vera will be returning to our screens? You got to series 11, episode 4 a couple of weeks back but then stopped showing this excellent program." When asked on This Morning last week about the remaining episodes, Brenda said they'd be on at 'some point.'
