ITV's Vera cast flock to Wallsend amid location 'mystery' in drama's new series

Wallsend was given a slice of the primetime TV spotlight on Sunday night, with various locations in the town used for the new series of Vera, as viewers were left wondering just where the latest episode was filmed.

Last year, an eagle eyed Vera fan snapped a photo of Vera stars Brenda Blethyn and Kenny Doughty looking 'intense' as they shot a scenes in a café and ITV viewers got to see that very scene as episode three of the hit drama's 12th series went on in Vera's usual 8pm slot right after Dancing on Ice.

The feature length tale, called Blue, tasked no nonsense sleuth DCI Stanhope with getting to the bottom of the death of a police constable, whose body was found in a lake. The investigation saw Brenda's famous on screen alias ruffle a few feathers on both sides of the law and, as well as being fully invested in the plot over the course of the two hour instalment, Vera viewers also got to do some location spotting.

Where Vera is filmed is always just a big a talking point as the storylines in the long-running show and ITV confirmed to ChronicleL:ive before Sunday's episode that three different places in Wallsend were used for Blue - a café, bar and industrial industrial warehouse

Other places in Sunday night's Vera that sparked fans' curiosity were a golf club, boxing gym and guest house, which were in Ryton and Shiremoor respectively, with filming for it also stretching further south in the North East to Hartlepool, with the famous Headland featured, as well as Burbank Community Centre and the town's train station.

Seeing the Vera cast on location in Wallsend last year, one fan tweeted leading lady Brenda to say: "delighted to see more Vera being filmed in Wallsend today. Will be looking forward to see what mystery that will needs solving by Vera and her team when it hits the screens."

The latest run of Vera will wrap up this Sunday, February 19 with A Darkest Evening, which will see more about Vera's family past be brought to the fore.
