ITV's Vera director praises 'legend' Brenda Blethyn as character causes a stir on screen

The director of Sunday's Vera has spoken out on how thrilled he was to work with 'legend' Brenda Blethyn and says he 'can't wait' for the audience to see the latest instalment of the ITV drama, which will see the no nonsense detective 'ruffle a few feathers' on screen.

It's now been a month since Vera, after what felt like an eternity away, returned to ITV for a host of new episodes, kicking off with the 'missing' parts from series 11, before continuing straight into series 12. Fans of all things DCI Stanhope have seen two feature length stories from series 12 so far and on February 12, it will be time for the third one, as Ann Cleeves' famous character gets to the bottom of another murder mystery.

And the man responsible for leading the cast and crew of the episode, entitled Blue, was Khurrum M. Sultan, an award winning film maker and the man responsible for critically acclaimed works like Home & Aboard and Hear Our Voices.

Khurrum took to Twitter earlier this week to share his excitement and being involved in Vera, writing "Are you ready 'Pet'... thrilled to share my episode of #VERA is airing this Sunday 12th February, 8pm, #ITV. With the legendary @BrendaBlethyn m immensely proud of my entire cast and crew. Can't wait for the audience to see this one."

Replying in an equally Geordie manner, one of his followers wrote: "Cant wait Pet , amazing tv show and storylines are amazing" with a second responding: "This is the adaptation of my favourite 'Vera' book. I loved it and l'm looking forward to watching on Sunday evening."

A third referenced a 'geographical flaw' with last week's Vera, joking: "So long as you don’t have Vera leaving Holy Island and getting to Newcastle 10 minutes later," as plenty of others told the director they'd be tuning in.

A synopsis for Blue teases that Vera causes a stir in her latest investigation, involving the death of a policeman.

It reads: "Joel Kingston is a copper’s copper from a respected and notable police family but when he is found dead, floating in a park lake, DCI Vera Stanhope finds herself investigating both sides of the thin blue line in order to find his killer. A complex family dynamic, tensions at work, and brushes with the underworld, paint a dark and complex picture."

It adds: " Joel was there to serve and protect but did his stubborn commitment to justice at any price lead to his death? Or, was he killed to stop him revealing a secret that would destroy someone’s life? Vera steps on toes and ruffles a few police feathers as she searches for answers as to why PC Joel Kingston is no longeron the beat."
