ITV's The Chase: Chaser furious after being called 'smug' by contestant

One of the stars of ITV's The Chase was left fuming after being called 'smug' by a contestant on the show.

Expert quizzer The Vixen received the barbed comment during this evening's episode (Monday, March 14) from a hopeful called Claire, an English teacher from Liverpool.

When asked by host Bradley Walsh which Chaser she'd like to face, the 37-year-old chose The Vixen - real name Jenny Ryan - saying, "I'd quite like to take her on. She's very good but sometimes comes across as a bit smug - I'd quite like to give her a run for her money."

Claire - who wanted to use the prize money on offer to take her mum Peggy to New York for afternoon tea - was then given her wish as The Vixen stepped out from behind the screen, looking less than amused.

"Hello Classroom Claire," she said. "Let me put my best smug expression on for you."

She then turned to the camera and addressed Claire's mum watching at home.

"Peggy, put the kettle on. She'll be home soon," she added.
