ITV's Paul O'Grady For the Love of Dogs: When is final series on, how to watch and all about the dog-loving show

After the devastating news of his shocking and sudden death, dog lovers and fans of Paul O'Grady may be comforted to hear that the new and final series of Paul O'Grady's popular show For The Love Of Dogs will go ahead as planned.

Paul O'Grady, who was also known as and love for his drag queen persona Lily Savage, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 28 and at the end of March ITV confirmed that his much-loved programme would be airing for its eleventh series, making one last posthumous return to television in never-before-seen footage.

The ITV programme takes place at the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, a place close to Paul O'Grady's heart as a renowned lover of animals. The late comedian and presenter filmed the new series in late 2022.

Throughout the episodes, viewers watch on as Paul meets members of the Battersea staff and learns more about the dogs in their care - from strays to abandoned pooches. Paul witnesses the progress each animal makes as they make a home at Battersea.

But when is the final series airing?

Here's everything we know...

When is For The Love Of Dogs on TV?

The eleventh and final series of Paul O'Grady's For The Love of Dogs will air on ITV1 and ITVX on Thursday, April 13 at 8:30pm. The first of six episodes will, as normal, be shown for 30 minutes.

You will also be able to watch the series online on ITVX.

What is the show about?

The show follows Paul O'Grady as he pays a visit to the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London, meeting and acquainting himself with not just the rescue animals being trained, cared for and rehomed at the centre but the people integral to their progression and adoption.

The show began in 2012 and was initially planned to be filmed over the course of only six days, however, after falling in love with the home and the animals in its care, he stayed on to volunteer for the next six months.

It wasn't long before he became an ambassador for the charity at which he continued to volunteer for the remaining seasons of the show.

Paul adopted several dogs which had appeared on the show.

How many episodes are there?

The last series of the show will be made up of six episodes, each lasting 30 minutes, and each showcasing the late Paul - who passed away at the age of 67 last month - meeting different rescue dogs and the team who help care, train and rehome them.

In the first episode, viewers will watch as Paul falls "head over heels" over a Newfoundland dog who is needing life-changing surgery and meets a bichon frise who was found wandering around a forest alone and a labrador cross breed who keeps flooding her kennel as a result of her obsession with water.

Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs airs on Thursday, April 13, at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
