ITV's Oti Mabuse suffers blow as Romeo & Duet scrapped after just one series

Oti Mabuse has been dealt a blow by ITV after the plug has been pulled on her Saturday night primetime show Romeo & Duet after just one series.

Months after being confirmed as the new judge on Dancing on Ice, it was announced that ex Strictly pro Oti would front the new dating programme, where singles aim to impress the 'picker' with their vocals, as they have to decide whether to come down from their tower to meet them.

Romeo & Duet's run was disrupted as ITV prioritised live sporting action over its Saturday night shows and, by the time its final episode aired, it had already been plagued by cancellation rumours as Oti told viewers: "hat's it for tonight. Thanks to all our other couples and singers...we'll be opening up for more musical matchmaking very soon on Romeo and Duet!"

However, there won't be more 'musical matchmaking' as it's been announced that Romeo & Duet WON'T return. Confirming the axe had fallen on Oti's presenting debut, a TV spokesperson told The Sun : "We have no plans for future series of Romeo & Duet at present. But we look forward to working with Oti again on The Masked Dancer later this year and are actively discussing other projects going forward."

Gibing their opinion on the news and how ITV should handle their schedule going forward, one viewer tweeted: "Keep 6pm lead in shows up to 7pm focused on classic gameshows like celebrity catchphrase, full run of strike it lucky etc build audience early evening at weekend Saturday and Sunday nights no need for trash TV like Romeo and duet."

A second reacted: "Movie premieres, variety specials, classic quiz shows & half decent soaps are a thing of the past."
