ITV's Nadia Nadim exits World Cup studio after finding out her mum had been killed

World Cup commentator Nadia Nadim was left devastated while working for one of Tuesday's games, when she found out her mum had been killed.

Danish pundit and women's player Nadia joined the ITV team for coverage of Denmark v Tunisia on Tuesday lunchtime, with a lot of talk in the build up to the match being about Christian Eriksen being in the Denmark team, not even 18 months on from being feared dead as he collapsed on the pitch during his side's Euros tie with Finland.

Thankfully, after his teammates and fans in the stand were left fearing the worst, Eriksen has made a full recovery and now plays in the Premier League for Manchester United. His recovery and the spirit of his teammates were talked about by Nadia in the build up to the Tunisia group game in the Qatar World Cup, with her also praising England for their 6-2 win against Iran a day earlier.

With the score 0-0 after the first 45, Nadia delivered some thoughts on her side's performances during the half time break, but was nowhere to be seen in the studio after the final whistle, with ITV host Mark Pougatch telling viewers she had been forced to leave the broadcast, but without explaining why.

It was Nadia herself that revealed the tragic reason why, telling fans her mum had been hit by a truck while returning home from the gym. Nadia, who plays in America, took to Twitter on Wednesday, to post: "Tuesday morning my mother was killed by a truck. She was on her way back from the gym.

“Words cannot describe what I’m feeling. I have lost the most important person in my life and it happened so sudden and unexpected. She was only 57.

“She was a warrior who had fought for every inch of her life. She didn’t give me life once but twice, and everything I/we are is because of her."

She ended the tweet: “I have lost my home and I know nothing’s gonna ever feel the same. Life is unfair and I don’t understand why her and why this way. I love you and I will see you again.”
