ITV's Martin Lewis forced off TV and radio over 'monstrously swollen' face weeks after wife's nasty accident

Martin Lewis has been forced to take some time off appearing on TV and the radio after undergoing a procedure which has left his face 'monstrously swollen'. The Money Saving Expert offered an update after telling his millions of followers that he was set to undergo some agonising dental work.

On Friday he told his followers about the procedure which he said he was "slightly dreading." He continued to tell his 1.5 million Twitter followers: "Having implant drilled into the bone of my front top tooth.

"Was meant to happen 6 months ago but bone graft didn't take well so had to wait. It’s going to be deep so not fun. I'm signing off now, may bow out of media next week if face swells. Have a good weekend."

His fans were soon sharing their best wishes and so he returned with an update on Monday (June 20). Martin, 50, wrote: "Ta for all the kind messages. Wasn't a pleasant experience, but through it now.

"Pain management is going well, though my upper lip is monstrously swollen, so speaking isn't easy and my left eye has swollen too. " He then added: "I'm back to work today, but obviously no TV/radio."

It comes just a couple of weeks after Martin's wife, Lara Lewington suffered a nasty accident. The 43-year-old admitted she was an "extremely clumsy person", after she suffered a crash on her electric scooter. The TV presenter, who hosts BBC’s technology programme Click, shared a selfie with her thousands of Twitter followers showing her with large red cuts on her head, lip and nose.

She wrote: “As an extremely clumsy person, always wobbly on two wheels, the electric scooter ride was never going to be a good idea. After being cleaned up and stitched up, six days later I’m healing well, and I'm grateful it wasn’t worse. Back on @BBCClick & @PackedLunchC4 this week, cuts ‘n all!"

Late last week, Lara went on to admit that she had been covering up her facial scars with "heavy make up" to hide her injuries. The 43-year-old looked fresh-faced as she attended a glitzy event at The British Museum - just weeks after her horrific accident.

She smiled in a selfie of her in front of the famous building, and was showered with compliments by fans with one commenting how she had 'no scars'. However, Lara replied: "Thank you, some very heavy make up has unbelievably managed to cover them!"
