ITV's Love Island host Laura Whitmore confirms new series twist as public asked to 'play Cupid'

Love Island host Laura Whitmore has revealed the first twist of the upcoming series. The girls have been told that they won't be able to pick who they want to couple up with.

The ITV2 producers are mixing things up this year, asking the public to 'play Cupid'. Laura told the girls in the Mallorcan villa: "You thought you'd all be stepping forward for the boys that you fancy the most.

"However, for the first time, we asked the public to play Cupid instead and pick the boy they thought each of you should couple up with." As reported by the Mirror, this means that Paige Thorne, 24; Indiyah Polack, 23; Tasha Ghouri, 23; Gemma Owen, 19 and Amber Beckford, 24, don't have a say in the matter.

Tasha said: "I hope the public have it right. I trust the public." The boys - including Luca Bish, 23; Ikenna Ekwonna, 23; Liam Llewellyn, 22; Dami Hope, 26; and Andrew Le Page, 27 - were then paired up with the girls.

Executive Producer Mike Spencer explained: "It's really exciting, fun people in the mix.

"But most importantly, we've worked really hard, we think, to match-make this year. I'm hoping that I mean, I won't make any predictions, but I'm hoping that there’s someone for everyone. I think we’ve done well with types."

He added: "It's hard to tell though, obviously until you first meet someone you never know if you're going to be attracted to them. But I think we've got a good group of people and I know we’ve ticked off their types in the mix."

Love Island airs on ITV2 at 9pm tonight.
