Confused and frustrated Love Island fans have accused the ITV show of 'ripping off' another dating programme, having clocked a key detail minutes in.
Having launched in the mid-00s with a celebrity version, Love Island, in its current form, has now been a TV staple for eight years and, following its second winter run in South Africa at the start of the year, is now back in its familiar home of a stunning Mallorca villa.
The new series kicked off at 9pm on Monday night, with a big first for the show, as the boys and girls went into the villa at the same time to mingle, rather than entering separately and then being forced to couple up. This gave the opportunity for them to indulge in a bit of chat, before host Maya Jama made her entrance to confirm that the Islanders would have no say in who they were paired up, with that decision having been made for them by the public.
And the switch up of how the first episode played out saw Love Island draw immediate comparisons to hit Netflix series Too Hot To Handle, where the singles arrive at their location within minutes of each other, before they find out they aren't on the dating show they thought they'd signed up for.
It took just minutes for the comparisons to be made between the two programmes, with one annoyed ITV viewer taking to Twitter to post: "Whats going on. A guy. Is this too hot to handle?"
Noticing the same thing, anther tweeted: "They wanna be Too Hot To Handle so bad."
