ITV's Lorraine tells viewers she has a HRT patch on her bottom and it's 'changed my life'

Television and radio presenter and menopause campaigner Lisa Snowdon appeared on Lorraine Kelly's morning show on Tuesday, May 23, when the 63-year-old Scottish host told Lisa that a HRT patch on her bottom has "changed my life".

Lisa, 51, was on the show to discuss her new brave and honest book Just Getting Started, in which she discusses personal issues she has faced and acts as a guide through all of life's stages - from fertility to pregnancy, dealing with weight gain, hormones, her sex life, reigniting her sense of self-love, living with the perimenopause and subsequently the menopause and beyond. She also detailed the heartbreaking miscarraige she suffered while presenting a live radio show - read more on that here.

Diving into what she hopes her readers will take from this book, Lisa explained: "I want people to be informed so they can make the right decision going forward and recognise the perimenopause. Because obviously, we think of common symptoms like hot flushes and your periods stopping. There are about 60 and counting, like lesser known ones. Bizarre ones.

"Your sense of smell and sound becoming more sensitive. Tinnitus. Vertigo. All these things that you think it can't be perimenopause, it can't be hormones. I want people to have an informed, educated decision on what they're going [through].

"Understand what's happening, going to the doctor and making a decision if you want to go on HRT, if that's something that they want to do. It been a game changer."

Providing her own experience on Hormone Replacement Therapy, Lorraine added: "Honestly, the HRT patch on my bottom has changed my life. And so quickly as well, Lisa. It didn't take too long. I honestly thought I was losing it. I lost myself. I was flat. No joy. Nothing was going right. And then I went and got help. I know HRT is not for everyone. But please don't dismiss it."

Pleading for people to go to the doctor and not suffer in silence, Lisa added: "You need advice, you need support at this time in your life. And then, once you've got it, you've nipped in the bud, the world is your oyster."

As stated by the NHS: "Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment to relieve symptoms of the menopause. It replaces hormones that are at a lower level as you approach the menopause."

There are various ways of taking HRT, including tablets, skin patches, gels and vaginal creams, pessaries or rings, and these treatments hope to help relieve symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness, reduced sex drive and more.
