ITV's Lorraine Kelly responds to Boris Johnson 'losing votes' for not knowing who she is

Lorraine Kelly has responded to fans' claims that Boris Johnson has 'lost votes' because he appeared to not know who she is. The Prime Minister appeared on Good Morning Britain for an interview with Susanna Reid on Tuesday (May 3).

It is the first time Mr Johnson has spoken to the ITV news programme in nearly five years - or 1791 days to be exact. Susanna and former co-host Piers Morgan regularly accused the PM of snubbing the show, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic where the Government abstained from appearing on it for 201 days.

Susanna, 51, interviewed Mr Johnson live from 10 Downing Street after admitting to Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh, who were hosting the rest of the show live from the ITV studio, that she had more than 100 questions for him. And she didn't hold back as she began by asking the PM if he is honest.

He replied: "I do my best to represent faithfully and accurately what I believe and sometimes it's controversial and sometimes it offends people, but that’s what I do…" Susanna then replied: "I just want a straight answer – you’re an honest speaker?"

Mr Johnson responded: "Yes, and er, I do my best to represent faithfully and accurately what I believe, and sometimes it’s controversial and sometimes it offends people, but that’s what I do." As he was pushed he added: "If you’re talking about the statements I made in the House of Commons, I was inadvertently, I was wrong and I’ve apologised for that. But look at what we have done…"

They spoke through various topics in the almost 30-minute interview but as the robust interview came to an end, Susanna referenced ITV’s Lorraine, which airs after GMB, to which Mr Johnson asked: "Who’s Lorraine?" to which she fired back: "Who’s Lorraine? Lorraine is a legend!"

The Scottish TV presenter didn't reference the awkward moment as she said as her self-titled show started: "Wow, thank you Susanna, a masterclass in a political interview, excellent stuff." But GMB viewers didn't let it go, heading to social media to discuss it and even suggested that the PM would 'lose votes' in the upcoming local elections.

Susanna then went on to tell Lorraine that he had been "fascinating" talking to the Prime Minister, saying: "I'm surprised I haven’t been thrown out, Lorraine. It was remarkable speaking to him. Look, it’s been almost five years since Boris Johnson has appeared on Good Morning Britain, and of course just over two of those years he’s been Prime Minister."

Later, Lorraine was clearly aware of what was being said on social media. "This is so funny..." she said as she looked at her iPad. "Loads of you are reacting to Boris Johnson earlier on, wondering who I was."

"Why should he know who I am?" the 62-year-old host then said on her self-titled ITV programme after a clip of the moment was played. "He's busy in the morning, he wouldn't be watching. Although, he could learn a lot as you know."

She then added; "That was just so funny. A lot of people have said he's lost votes... he hasn't lost votes just because he doesn't know who I am but very, very funny."
