Lorraine Kelly ended up calling one of her guests a 'twit' after getting viewers talking with her latest interview. The presenter was joined in the studio by former MP Neil Parish, who resigned from his position after being caught watching pornography in the House of Commons.
Mr Parish, who is a farmer by trade, was forced out after admitting to watching X-rated videos, first saying he accidentally viewed one when browsing for tractors, before later doing so deliberately in the Commons chamber. The 65-year-old was suspended from the Tory whip in April before the MP for 12 years resigned the following month.
Lorraine, 62, introduced her guest before quickly going in with her first questioning, asking Mr Parish: "What were you thinking?" to which he said the incident was a "moment of madness" and said it was because he was "bored".
When asked why he didn’t admit to watching porn at work straight away, Mr Parish replied: "I would freely admit that I was trying to pretend it hadn’t happened. But also, I was hoping I’d be able to sort it out, whether rightly or wrongly apologise. It would have never happened again, as you can imagine.
"So I’m not justifying it again and I was right to resign." He later thanked his wife for her support and commented that she "knows what [he's] like".
He said: "In the end, talking to my wife who’s been hugely supportive of me over the years, she knows I’m no angel. In fact, she chases me around the kitchen with scissors saying 'snipper snap'. And we all know what bit of my anatomy she's talking about."
Clearly surprised by his response, Lorraine then asked how the conversation with his wife went. While acknowledging it was difficult, he told the TV host: "She’s been hugely supportive. She came up with me all the 12 years I was here in Parliament, helped me in the office, trying to keep me on time – people who know me, 'the late Neil Parish' was always my name.
"She’s done so much with me, so naturally on the morning I decided to resign, it was her advice I took, it was my son and daughter’s very sound advice. In the end do you sort of twist and turn, do you tell lots of fibs? Or do you go reasonably cleanly? And I decided to go cleanly."
But that particular comment didn't go down well with Lorraine viewers. @Je_ssi_c_a tweeted: "Snipper snap? I'm eating my breakfast here ffs #Lorraine." @LindaBl94674248 commented: "Neil Parish aka Tractorporn, on #Lorraine, jovially talking about his wife chasing him round the kitchen with scissors, shouting "snip, snip". Nooooo. This is not normal behaviour!"
@JAllen20 said: "#lorraine Sorry what? Neil Parish on @GMB describing his wife chasing him round the kitchen with scissors to cut off his **** Lorraine moved swiftly on. Did I imagine this?" @tracey_diaries shared: "Car crash TV. Guy who watched porn in Parliament. App Wife knows what he's like ... She runs around the kitchen with scissors shouting snicker snack! Oh dear lord. #lorraine face."
@KayleighHealy1 wrote: "What the actual f**k is this interview #lorraine," alongside a string of crying laughing emojis. @leeleeCThomas added: "This is one of the funniest interviews #lorraine has ever done. The denial is hilarious. He must think that we are all born last night."
Later, while speaking to Countryfile presenter Helen Skelton, Lorraine admitted that Mr Parish had been a 'twit' but appeared impressed that he was willing to 'face the music' as she had earlier described it.
