ITV's Lorraine Kelly apologises to Coronation Street star Georgia Taylor after marriage mistake

Lorraine Kelly was left apologising to Coronation Street star Georgia Taylor following an accidental marriage slip-up. The Toyah Battersby actress appeared live on the presenter's self-titled ITV show on Friday live from her character's home on the cobbles.

Georgia, who has played the daughter of Les and Janice Battersby in the long-running soap on-and-off for 25 years, was on hand to chat to Lorraine about her current storyline alongside Imran Habeeb actor Charlie De Melo.

The recently married couple have recently been awarded custody of Imran's son, Alfie, whom he shares with Abi Franklin. But as viewers know, Imran hasn't played fair. The solicitor used paralegal Ben to get evidence former drug addict Abi, played by Sally Carman, is using again and used him as a witness in court after he spotted Abi with her old drug dealer mate, Dean, who approached her and asked for money, which she gave him to keep him off her back.

But as Corrie fans know, Abi isn't one to give up without a fight and after becoming suspicious of Ben, followed him and spotted him doing his own drug deal. He then caught her trying to get pictures and the pair ended up in a confrontation. After a scuffle between the pair for Abi's phone, the mum issued Ben with an ultimatum – either admit Imran paid him to lie or she'd turn over the video to his boss and police.

Abi's efforts, however, ended up being in vain as Ben still didn't come clean as he was offered a job with Imran and Adam Barlow as their assistant at the solicitor's office. Meanwhile, Toyah is completely oblivious to it all.

Speaking to Lorraine about her character, Wigan-born Georgia said: "I feel like there have been times recently where she’s potentially been a little bit of a pushover. I’ve been reading the scripts going, 'Oh come on! Just bring a bit of that Battersby backbone back!'

"However, I do understand she’s had a rough few years and this longing to be a mother has kind of overtaken everything else. I think potentially that sometimes clouds her judgment a bit. I think that’s impacted on a lot of the decisions she’s made."

Her appearance comes after a trailer was released by Coronation Street teasing 'carnage' on the cobbles with Imran and Abi. It shows the battle for baby Alfie intensifying and the residents of the street will face the consequences in an unmissable week of episodes that promises chaos.

And Georgia appears to have promised loyal Corrie fans that Imran will get his comeuppance but hinted there will still be a major fallout for Toyah. "It’s lie upon lie. You kind of think, will the ghosts of all of Imran’s misdemeanours catch up with him? The answer is, it’s a soap – so yes,’ the 42-year-old soap star laughed. "But the question is, what will the repercussions be, and what will they be for Toyah as well?"

As well as her soap alter-ego, Georgia was also asked about her private life. Lorraine remarked: “We saw you in Law and Order, we saw you in Blackpool, and of course we saw you in Casualty, so many other things that you did.

"I mean it’s great to have you back and I love the fact that in Casualty, you know you always make friends on set, that’s where you met your husband, which is rather lovely. The two of you being in sort of the same job, it’s really nice that."

Georgia then had to correct the host as she replied: "Yeah, we’re actually not married but we practically are because we’ve been together so long." Lorraine quickly apologised, saying: "Oh I’m so sorry! I keep doing this!"

"That’s okay," Georgia reassured her as she carried on with her love tale. "We met, he was a sort of semi-regular character, he was playing a councilor ironically, which is then what Toyah ended up doing. We met, gosh 13 years ago. So yeah, got him out of the job and lots of friends and it was a really good time."

Lorraine added: "I’m so sorry I keep marrying people off. I don’t mean it, I just keep doing it. I just assume."
