ITV's Lorraine explains her 'suspicious package' was to blame for evacuation

Lorraine Kelly has spoken out after since ITV's studios were evacuated yesterday.

At the time, This Morning was pulled off air and replaced with emergency footage on Thursday due to a "security alert".

Loose Women, which was due to air from 12.30pm, was also cancelled.

A security incident was reported nearby to the studios, with White City and Wood Lane stations closed whilst police responded.

An ITV spokesperson later told the ECHO : "Due to a suspected security alert, the building which ITV daytime broadcast from was safely evacuated.

"The issue has been resolved and staff have returned to the building following the all clear from the police.

"We apologise for the interruption to the schedule and we have now returned to normal programming."

But today, while giving a preview of what to expect on her show on today's Good Morning Britain, Lorraine Kelly spoke to hosts Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway about what really went on.

Ben said: "Just quickly, were you responsible for the evacuation? Was it a pair of suspicious underwear or something?"

Lorraine replied: "Apparently, I am told, someone from a film company sent me a present and it had a battery in it. When they X-rayed it, it looked a little bit suspicious but it was all fine and dandy and it's ok."

Kate said: "It's lovely to know people are taking care of you though isn't it, it's a nice thing."

Ben added: "I tell you what though the crew for This Morning were thrilled as they all got to go outside for a couple of hours,"

Lorraine said: "What a shame. At least it proves the system works though."

The ITV shows should continue as normal today.
