ITV's Dr Hilary Jones shares hay fever hacks amid tablet shortage

Dr Hilary Jones has issued advice to hay fever sufferers.

The medical expert shared his tips on today's episode of Lorraine amid reports the UK is facing a shortage of hay fever tablets. The Mirror reported yesterday that Boots and Lloyds Pharmacy were some of the shops that had run out of Piriton tablets.

The issue due to a shortage of chlorphenamine maleate, which is the active ingredient in Piriton and other hay fever remedies. Dr Hilary urged hay fever sufferers to keep an eye on the weather forecast to see when the pollen is going to be high.

He also revealed some hacks people can follow to ease their symptoms. He added: "Friday is going to be a bad day because we've got higher temperatures. Avoid going out in the early morning and early evening, which is when pollen tends to rise in the sky and then fall to the ground later on as the air cools.

"Think about wrap around sunglasses. Thinking about pollen filters in your car. Think about vaseline in the nostrils. Think about having a shower when you come in from your walk outside to get rid of pollen from your hair. Shampoo your hair as well. Maybe shampoo the dog too."
