ITV's Ant and Dec centre of rugby row as Ireland v England 'cut short' for Saturday Night Takeaway

Ant and Dec unintentionally found themselves at the centre of a rugby now on Saturday night as rugby fans were left fuming at ITV for 'cutting short' the coverage of Ireland v England.

It was announced on Friday that this week's instalment of Saturday Night Takeaway would be starting later than normal, due to ITV prioritising the crunch Six Nations match, exactly a year after Ant and Dec's show was scrapped completely for a week to allow for the rugby to be shown.

That move was condemned by Takeaway fans, but this time it'd rugby supporters who have taken aim at ITV bosses, as, while the whole of the match, won by Ireland 29-16, went uninterrupted, the presentation of the Grand Slam trophy to Ireland, a huge moment in the country's rugby history, was cut to allow for Ant and Dec to broadcast live to the nation.

The ITV commentator quickly informed viewers that the trophy presentation would play out live on ITV4, but that wasn't enough for many rugby fans, who felt that they could have just stuck with the match for a few minutes longer, given that Takeaway was already starting a bit later.

Venting their frustrations on Twitter, one viewer blasted: "F**k me ITV! If England had won Grand Slam would they have cut away to fecking Ant and Dec before trophy was lifted? Unbelievable!" Equally annoyed, a second posted: "Ireland have just won a grand slam and we can’t even see them lift the trophy? What are you doing? Ant and dec can wait"

Questioning whether the same action would be taken if England had won the Grand Slam, a third viewer tweeted: "F**k me ITV! If England had won Grand Slam would they have cut away to f**king Ant and Dec before trophy was lifted? Unbelievable!"
