ITV Platinum Jubilee Celebration viewers beg for BBC coverage after huge blunder

Viewers weren't happy with the ITV's coverage of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration tonight.

The Monarch was in attendance as Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham presented live from outside the grounds of Windsor Castle, bringing an array of celebrity interviews and performances. The programme was set to mark Queen Elizabeth II being on the throne for 70 years ahead of June's extended bank holiday weekend.

But fans watching took to Twitter to claim that they weren't happy with ITV's presentation. They complained that the BBC would have been a preferable broadcaster for the occasion.

First they complained about the amount of ad breaks as it was causing them to miss segments of the live coverage. The BBC doesn't feature commercial breaks and plays programmes in full and is funded through the license fee.

But then, viewers were really tipped over the edge when ITV made a blunder and misnamed a British national treasure. Doc Martin's Martin Clunes appeared on the show, taking to the mic to present a segment.

However, the name tag that appeared at the bottom of the screen read Damian Lewis OBE instead. People took to Twitter to share their frustration.

Graham said: "Bloody @ITV you are ruining this showcase event. Too many unnecessary films, not enough coverage of the actual event and now calling Martin Clunes Damian Lewis #PlatinumJubilee #horseshow."

Rose said: "Since when did Martin Clunes change his name. This is dreadful #PlatinumJubilee #itv #shouldofbeentheBBC."

Peta said: "Hah, I caught that little mistake. Damien Lewis’s name came up instead of Martin Clunes. #PlatinumJubilee" Meanwhile, Tanya said: "Martin Clunes was just named as Damien Lewis? All OBEs look the same to Her Majesty #PlatinumJubilee."
