ITV Our House: Viewers slam 'waste of time' Martin Compston drama after finale

ITV's highly anticipated drama Our House aired its fourth and final episode on Thursday night, and had a decidedly mixed reaction from viewers.

After four nights of wondering what happened to cause Fi (Tuppence Middleton) to return home one day to find that strangers were moving into her home — and who claimed she signed off on the sale — all of the pieces were finally put together.

Through flashbacks it was explained that, fearing that he would take the blame for a drunk driving accident, her husband Bram (Martin Compston) got mixed up with two people who threatened to report him if he didn't sell his and Fi's home.

One of the biggest twists in the series was the revelation that one of the blackmailers, Toby, was also in a relationship with Fi — who knew him as Mike.

In episode four, she at last figures out Mike's true identity and gets her revenge in a tense standoff that leaves the criminal dead.

This has major repercussions for Fi, however, as her attempts to cover up the murder with the help of neighbour Merle (Weruche Opia) are in vain.

Soon after, police turn up at her door with an audio recording of Bram confessing to the drink-driving accident and to Toby's blackmail — suddenly making her the prime suspect for his murder.

The recording also sees Bram tearfully say goodbye to his family, intent on ending his life after everything that has happened.

Our House ends with Fi escorted away by police, having lost everything because of her husband's mistakes.

Many viewers at home were not a fan of the bleak ending, and took to Twitter to voice their frustration.

One said: "What a disappointing ending. Only positive is I watched it last night and didn’t need to wait to tonight for the p**s poor ending. At least Martin Compston's character lasted longer than in Vigil before kicking the bucket."

A second tweeted: "Worst ending! Wtf. I’m annoyed by that.. waste of time!"

"Another promising series with a s***e ending," a third echoed.

A fourth agreed: "#OurHouse was an intense watch but the ending of the finale was poor!"

A fifth commented: "Typical #ITV drama. S***e ending."

A sixth wrote: "S**t ending. Too many coincidences. Too much didn't ring true".

Another shared: "Wow #ourhouse was so bad, and the ending is truly terrible. Save yourselves, it’s too late for me I’ve already watched all 4 eps".

An eighth stated: "Do yourself a favour and avoid the disappointment of watching all 4 of these. After a slightly intriguing start it fizzled out. Massive plot holes and a damp squib ending"

"Well that was a disappointing ending," posted a ninth.

Not everyone was left with such a bitter taste following the conclusion, though, with one tweeting: "Was definitely not expecting that ending! Really great series."

"What a harrowing ending to such a tragic tale," a second lamented.

A third shared: "Just watched the finale of #OurHouse on #Itvhub No Spoilers but I'm not sure how I feel about it, it's not the ending I expected. Great series though, had me gripped to the very end".

A fourth commented: "Just finished watching #OurHouse. What a way to end. Fantastic performances from @Tuppence and @martin_compston. Surely a 2nd series is needed?!"
