ITV Our House: Is Tuppence Middleton related to Kate, is 'Tuppence' her real name and what are her OCD struggles?

Starring in the new ITV drama Our House, which you can read about here, Downton Abbey actress Tuppence Middleton takes on the leading role of Fi.

The star has previously been in the Downton Abbey film and is set to star in the second film Downton Abbey: A New Era, which is coming out later this year.

Many people are unsure if Tuppence is Tuppence's real name - but it is! And there's a sweet family story credited for the reason she was given the name.

As Entertainment Daily reports, the actress said: "Tuppence was what my grandmother nicknamed my mother, so she gave it to me." She also has a sister called Angel and loves her name, saying it is an advantage to have a memorable name.

The 35-year-old actress also shares her last name with famous sisters, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and Pippa Middleton.

Tuppence, however, is not related to Kate or Pippa, despite fans drawing similarities between their appearances. Many believe that Tuppence may one day play Kate in a film about her life.

The actress has also struggled with OCD since was she 11 and when she was younger had strict routines she had to follow before she went to bed.

She said: “It started, as it typically does, with cleanliness and handwashing and very strict routines – obsessing about turning off the light switch, turning off the oven, making sure the gas is not on and all that kind of stuff."

Her bedtime routine when she was younger consisted of looking at each corner of the room for eight seconds.

“Then, as I got older, it developed into a more generalised anxiety and I didn’t feel like I had much of a voice when I was younger."

Tuppence continues to struggle from self-imposed routines in her adult life which can prevent her from leaving the house, as BristolLive reports.

She was born in Bristol in 1987 and grew up in Somerset, attending Bristol Grammar School and the performing arts school Stagecoach.

Her first appearance on TV was in the BBC comedy-horror Tormented in 2009 and since then she has appeared in Friday Night Dinner, Lewis, and Black Mirror.

Our House is one of her biggest roles to date as she stars alongside Martin Compston in the drama which is based on the Louise Candlish novels.

Our House continues on ITV on Tuesday, March, 8 at 9pm.
