ITV News reporter Emily Morgan dies aged 45 after brave battle with lung cancer

ITV News journalist Emily Morgan, who played a key role in covering the Covid pandemic has died aged 45, the broadcaster has announced.

Emily, who was the health and science editor for ITV News, had been battling lung cancer.

Chris Ship, the channel’s royal editor, announced she had passed away on Friday night surrounded by her family.

He tweeted: “She was such a beautiful person and a dear friend.

“As Health Editor, Emily was fearless in reporting Covid to the nation in 2020.

“Talented, kind, full of humanity.”

Andrew Dagnell, editor of ITV Network News, said: “Her reporting was instrumental in exposing the immense pressure and strain that NHS workers were under, and she became a trusted voice for the public during an unprecedented time.

“Emily’s passion for the role was evident in everything she did and her work was a constant reminder of why journalism matters.

“Her dedication to informing and educating our viewers will continue to inspire all those who were privileged to work alongside her.

“Our thoughts are with Emily’s family. Emily was proud to be a journalist, but she was even more proud of her family. She adored them. We are sending them our love and support at this unthinkably difficult time.

Emily, a mother of two young daughters, had worked for ITN for 23 years.

Jonathan Munro, director of journalism at BBC News, said: “The death of Emily Morgan deprives us all of an intelligent, probing, empathetic journalist.

“An explainer and an analyst. A real talent. Hardly comparable, though, to the loss for her family which must be utterly heartbreaking.”

Rachel Corp, Chief Executive of ITN also paid tribute, saying: “Emily played a pivotal role in ITV News for many years and her exceptional talent, unwavering commitment to the team and compassionate approach were evident to all of us.”
