ITV has confirmed there will not be a season two of Maternal.
The drama premiered in January and followed three female doctors as they returned to post-pandemic frontline medicine after maternity leave. The series comprised of six episodes and showed the women heroically balance the intense demands of the NHS and motherhood.
Although the series was set in Manchester, it was filmed in Liverpool as many scenes were recorded at Edge Hill Health Centre on Edge Lane. Other parts of the programme were filmed in an office block at Liverpool Innovation Park, which was transformed into a "hospital".

The show earned positive reviews and a loyal audience as 1.9m viewers tuned into the final episode. However, ITV has told the ECHO Maternal will not return for a second season due to lower than expected viewing figures.
A spokesperson said: "It was a very difficult decision as we really wanted to commission another series of Maternal, but unfortunately the audience didn't come to the drama in the numbers that we'd hoped for.
"Everyone who watched the series really loved it, and for that reason we're really disappointed we can't make another series happen."
