ITV Love Island winners Kai and Sanam reveal how they'll spend their winnings - and it's super thoughtful

Love Island stars Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan have revealed how they'll spend their winnings after they were crowned winners on Monday night (March 13). The couple were clear favourites to take the title as the ITV2 dating show's second-ever winter series came to an end.

The Manchester PE and Science teacher and the social worker, from Bedford, beat fellow couples Lana Jenkins and Ron Hall, who landed up in second place, and Samie Elishi and Tom Clare, who finished in third position, during the final episode which saw host Maya Jama return to the South African villa. Tanya Mahenga and Shaq Muhammad placed fourth following a public vote.

And it has since been revealed by ITV, on Tuesday (March 14), that Kai and Sanam walked away with a huge 44 per cent of the whole final public vote, ahead of Lana and Ron's second place of 30%.

Tom and Samie took 24% of the final voting figures but it was bad news for Shaq and Tanya as despite being the first couple to drop the 'L-bomb' before making their relationship official on their final date, as they claimed just 2% of the final vote.

And now, in their first interview since winning the ninth Love Island series, Kai and Sanam have said they didn't expect to win the competition after coupling up during the controversial Casa Amor twist. "It’s a bit of a shock. I don’t think either of us expected to even be in the final let alone win it" Kai, 24, said.

"When we got to the final, I think we were just happy to be there. We said the whole time along, it didn’t matter if we won it or not - positions weren't anything, we were happy to go at any time because we knew that we had met each other and were buzzing and happy and just looking forward to our time together next. To come away and win it, is just the cherry on top. We are both just absolutely buzzing and shocked."

Sanam added: "Whether we were third, fourth, second, whatever we would have still been really happy. It’s just amazing to know there is a lot of love there for us."

The new couple were soon asked how they plan to spend their £50,000 prize money and after a more self-indulgent answer, the pair also shared their thoughtful plans for the cash. "Holiday!" Sanam said as Kai commented: "I want to go to Italy. I want to go to the Amalfi Coast. Sanam wants to go to Santorini!"

Sanam then added: "We’ve got to be sensible with it as well." Which was echoed by Kai who said: "Before I came in here I wanted to start up a business and help kids get into physical activity. I don’t want to turn my back on teaching, working with young kids and think I will use some of that to do that. I am not sure yet in what capacity."

Sanam agreed, replying: "That’s similar to me. I came from social work - working with children who have been adopted. I know that sometimes in my area there can be limited services, so for me I want to be able to do something to aid and support them, being an advocate for them."

Kai added: "Both our careers were pretty similar when we came in here. The conversations we had and the reasons why we were doing them were very similar." It comes after fans singled out their jobs as being one of the key reasons the pair succeeded in the South African villa.

@daniell21493615 said: "I am so happy #Kai and #Sanam won, such a beautiful genuine girl who brought out a lovely side of Kai, with their jobs these two could use their platforms for something so worthwhile hopefully this is what we will see in the future #loveIsland." @libbsmaebooth tweeted: "A teacher and a social worker.... the love story we never knew we needed #loveisland." @missfeven added: "The nation got it right, genuine couple and a teacher and social worker deserve to WIN! #loveisland."
