Love Island has sparked hundreds more complaints in its final week, it has been revealed. The ITV2 dating show came to an end on Monday night (August 1) with host Laura Whitmore heading into the Mallorcan villa to reveal the winners of the 2022 series.
Finalists Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti, Gemma Owen and Luca Bish, Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope, and Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page all faced the public vote after eight weeks of love, arguments and head-turning in the Spanish sunshine.
But it was Turkish actress Ekin-Su, 27, and Italian business owner Davide, also 27, won over viewers with their fiery but passionate relationship that spanned most of the series and were crowned winners, sharing the £50,000 cash prize.
However, it has been confirmed that a total of 466 complaints were issued to Ofcom in Love Island's final week of airing. The broadcasting watchdog confirmed to the Mirror that the 286 complaints they received on July 26 was in relation to Luca Bish's behaviour towards Gemma Owen.
Fishmonger Luca, 23, came under fire from viewers following his reaction during a saucy 'Mile High'-themed challenge which saw the girls dressed as cabin crew. Luca, 23, appeared to get irritated that his partner was getting up close and personal with the other boys during the challenge when she licked their necks.
Afterwards, Gemma talked to the girls about the situation and said that she had just acted in the “heat of the moment” and the pair later confronted each other where Luca admitted that he had not liked seeing her get flirtatious with the other male Islanders but added that it was a challenge so he could not 'stay annoyed' at her.
Gemma fumed to Luca at one point: "You were pushing me off, had a face like a slapped a***, are you 12?" but he argued: "No, I'm not in a mood," to which Gemma argued: "Luca, don't play thick." Their argument then continued before Lucas said 'it's doing my head in' and walks off.
It came after Luca's behaviour during the series was called into question when he was upset by a clip shown during Movie Night, which showed bad behaviour from all the Islanders, showing Gemma having a conversation with Casa Amor male bombshell Billy Brown. Luca, who accused Gemma of flirting, told the boys: “Just bring me a f***ing bird now. Trust me when I say, if she wants to play, I will f***ing explode." And he fumed: "‘I don’t even want to talk to her tonight. Made me look like an absolute f*****g w****r I ain’t going f*****g near that bird."
And the 180 complaints received in relation to the show's final earlier this week were mainly down to the fact that viewers were "upset" with which couples had made it to the final. Ekin-Su and Davide beat Gemma and Luca who finished runner-up, while Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope came in third and Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page placed fourth.
Following the results Love Island fans joked they 'wanted a refund' due to where the four final couples placed. Responding to Andrew and Tasha finishing in fourth place after undergoing a massive u-turn in the eyes of viewers, @sophiahuxleyxx said: "Scam want a refund." @itsmherex screamed: "I SUGGEST YOU SHOULD RECOUNT THE VOTE." @Clohiddles_15 tweeted: "Should have been 1st or 2nd, not 4th?! #loveisland."
